I am a little late on hitting on this subject, but better late than never.
I'm sure most of you who live in the central city have heard about The Distillery's problems with the new renters at the St Anton building accorss the street.
They renters are complaning about noise from the bar.....
HELLO!!!???!!! Did you not realize there was a bar accoss the street when you were thinking about renting? Did you check out the area before moving in? Of course not...that would make too much sense.
This ranks right up there with people who complain about airplane noise when they bought a house IN THE FLIGHT PATH of the airport.
If you want to live in a perfectly quite neighborhood, you should not have moved directly across the street from a noisy bar, there are plenty of other places in midtown you could rent at.
Common sense people, common sense.

Dont get me started LIUS !
ReplyDeletei'd like to state that this is not a problem with the St. Anton residents, who i'm sure generally like city life, but with the city. that's just about the most ridiculous handeling of a neighborhood dispute i've heard of. slam the business owner, shut them down, send out a task force - all before sitting down and discussing the issue with the two opposing parties?
ReplyDeletehuh?
another point made in the article is how the all ages punk venue, the Junta, got shut down. that maybe true, and not right fully so - but what about the irresponsible landowner, who knew they were in dispute with the city about selling the property or forcing eminent domain. The Junta club was told not to do any renovations to fix their problems because the property was being sold off. It sounds like that was the first the club owner heard of it.
that's not right?!
Wait a second..I thought the problem came from a few people complaing from the new building?
ReplyDeleteNot true?
yes it's true. it was either one or more - but the article in the SN&R also quoted this:
ReplyDelete"A St. Anton employee declined to comment, though resident Debbie Rafter said she moved downtown for its culture and revitalization. “That’s why we’re here,” Rafter said. “At least, that’s why I’m here.”"
what may have happened is the building's property management got way over zealous and the city took it out of hand. either way, i don't think it's fair that the residents of the St. Anton get blamed for this incident. as evident by Debbie Rafter, not everybody came to St. Anton to find tranquility.
No kidding...I moved out of the burbs to get away from the "tranquility" and get closer to what is downtown.
ReplyDeleteWell, it may not have been all the residence, but there are some that don't realize what that they did have a choice where they live.
The city waaaay over reacted with this task force. The culture and revitalization is what most people move to MT or DT for.
Maybe a few of us need to send some letters into the city officials illustrating how absurd this task force is.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the Brannan a residential condo in San Francisco that was built right in front of a Huge lit up billboard that was there for many years.
ReplyDeleteOnce the building came up, the residents kept complaining that the billboard was keeping them up at night due to the light shining through their windows.
They made it sound like the billboard was there after they moved in, even thought they knew all about it and it was in the disclosure documents.
Selfish people will always have their own point of view. Look at all the big polluting gas guzzlers on the road.
