'Cap City Sips' Summer Happy Hour

This summer, Downtown Sacramento Partnership and local downtown businesses have joined forces to create a budget-friendly happy hour promotion for the Downtown District. Each restaurant or bar participating in Cap City Sips will offer a happy hour menu every Wednesday from 3-7pm featuring $2 beers, $3 wine, and $4 cocktails. The deals will continue each week all summer long, today through August 29. Since the price points are exactly the same at each participating location, patrons will have a chance to try multiple venues throughout the course of the 3-monthpromotion.

Participating restaurants and bars to date include 4th Street Grille, Blue Prynt, Capitol Garage, Dive Bar, Fat City Bar & Café, The Firehouse Restaurant, Frank Fat’s, House Kitchen & Bar, Kupros Bistro, The Melting Pot, Michelangelo’s, Monsoon’s, O’Mally’s Irish Pub, Pizza Rock, Public Market Bar (PMB) at The Sheraton, Pyramid Ale House, River City Brewing Company, River City Saloon, Ten22, and Tequila Museo Mayahuel.

Speakeasy Tour this Saturday

Want something fun and different to do this Saturday night? Have friends/relatives in town for Thanksgiving week? If you’re a fan of history, cocktails, or both, grab your group and join Downtown Sacramento Partnership tour guide and history buff Shawn Peter for the Sacramento speakeasy tour and pub crawl! The speakeasy tour takes you on a pub crawl through Old Sacramento and each location was a former speakeasy site during the prohibition. The tour begins at the River City Saloon and heads to several bars throughout Oldtown, including the Delta King, once a hotspot for prohibition drinking, jazz bands, gambling and fine dining. At each stop, you’ll have time to purchase prohibition-era cocktails and beer while you ponder and discuss Sactown’s rich history and dirty little secrets. The tour is only $10 per person, and the more, the merrier! The tour lasts about 2 hours and is a great way to kick off a fun night on the town with your friends.

Downtown Focus for Arts Programming

Starting this month, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, in partnership with Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Center for Contemporary Art and Crocker Art Museum is preparing to launch West of 16th Street, East of the River.

The extensive series of arts-related programming and special events throughout Downtown will highlight public art and historical architecture, the Crocker family’s legacy, Downtown’s sculpture garden, a unique collection of Chicano art and temporary art exhibits by local artists.

Taking a cue from other cities’ efforts to revitalize districts via arts related activities, DSP is utilizing ground floor vacancies for temporary art installations. Colliers International, St. Anton Partners and the CIM Group have donated space for temporary exhibits by various local artists and designers. Their work can be viewed at various locations throughout Downtown.

Arts programming aims to support downtown businesses, museums and galleries and was developed out of requests for more Second Saturday and summertime activity. “Businesses have expressed interest in connecting with Midtown’s very successful Second Saturday event,” said DSP Programming Manager Julia Beckner. “Downtown is home to the city’s oldest and most interesting public art and architecture, yet the district is often overlooked as a center for arts and culture. We hope that, with this summer schedule of arts related programming, we can bring attention to all that Downtown has to offer.”
