Sacramento County Courthouse Construction

Sac. County Courthouse looking west from F & 7th Streets

The New Sacramento Courthouse exterior skin was completed in September of last year as well as the curtainwall installation (except for leaveouts) and Clark Pacific has completed precast panel installation. It appears interior is where much of the work is focused on right now. Opening will likely occur in Q1 2024 per the contractor’s current schedule.

Sacramento County Courthouse Construction

Sac. County Courthouse looking east from I-5
The Sacramento County Courthouse is more than half way finished installing the curtain walls with two different window designs. The north facing side on G Street (front entrance) has a more traditional glass design, were as the south facing side is a more random window design. Just like the Federal Courthouse across the street, the backside of the building is a dead zone on the street level, making sure this whole block of H Street is lifeless.

Sacramento County Courthouse Construction

Driving east on Hwy 50 toward two concrete elevator shafts
It appears the Sacramento County Courthouse has almost reached its final height. The steel skeleton for the structure itself is going up around the two concrete elevator shafts that look to be topped out. Completion is scheduled for September 2023.

Sacramento County Courthouse Construction

At the corner of 6th & H Streets, two tower cranes are soon going to rise above the Sacramento County Courthouse project site. A few weeks ago the OX Blue camera was turned off to the public, but if you take a little walk around the area, there are several good spots to check it out. Construction began in November 2020 and is estimated to complete in December 2023. This high-rise will be 270 feet,  17 stories (+1 mechanical level), 18 total stories with 1 level of parking below, 53 courtrooms, 566,895 square-foot building will cover an entire city block (2.5 acres) and house the court’s criminal and civil operations. At an estimated cost of over $501 million, the project also includes a large jury assembly room, food services, civil settlement center and will bring all of the court’s administrative arms under one roof. Project is targeting LEED Silver, tracking for Gold. The State bought the land in 2014 for $10 million. Clark Construction, Courts.ca.gov, Sacramento Granicus, Sacramento Courthouse Construction.

New Sacramento County Courthouse Construction

Believe it or not, construction began on the Sacramento County Courthouse on November 16, 2020. Be sure to view the OxBlue webcam here

There seems to be a bit of confusion at to how tall it will be when completed. After I reached out to both the contractor, Clark Construction and the State of CA Dept. of General Services (DGS), they both confirmed with me the final height will be 270’. It’s remarkable that it finally got to this point after first being delayed in 2012 and again indefinitely in 2016 when then Governor Jerry Brown diverted funds from the courthouse bond to backfill the state’s budget and those funds were never returned. After a nine year delay, the state budget restored the funds in 2018 to begin the bidding process in 2019.
