On the eastern side of the existing UC Davis Medical Center, two tower cranes are in place to construct the 14-story hospital tower. At a total construction cost of $1.2 million (project cost: $3.7 billion), the building will connect to the existing Surgery and Emergency Services Pavillion to over 909,000 square feet of space in the new structure. The California Tower & Aggie Square Plan

UC Davis Health Sacramento campus is undergoing a
massive expansion over the next decade

The proposed California Tower will include a 16-story, 332-bed hospital facility and 5-story pavilion. The $3.75 billion project is scheduled to have patients moving in by 2030 and is currently in the design development phase and will replace the north-south wing originally built in 1929 and the addition from the 1950’s and will be demolished in the coming years. These were images out of Comstock’s Magazine promotional supplement for March 2022. UC Davis Health is also investing 1.1 billion in the nearby AggieSquare where both research facilities and housing will improve the neighborhood.

Hospital Project Proposed By UC Davis Health

This projects not in the grid but it’s BIG for sure. Expansion plans are underway for a $3.75 billion, 16-storty hospital tower at 1 million square feet. The Sacramento Business Journal has reported that UC Davis is planning to replace both the North, South, and East Wings of the current hospital because it will not meet seismic safety standards by 2030. The new “California Tower” will have 400 beds raising the total capacity to 700 beds up from the current 625. They will be doing away with all the double-occupancy rooms to reduce infection transmissions. The proposal is currently in the environmental review process with hopes of breaking ground in late 2021 so they can begin to take patients by 2030.
